The freshness of Spring and the new life of Easter aid us in
renewing our commitment to a Christ-centered way of life.
As we reflect on how we have used our God-given gifts of
time and talents, as well as our gifts of material possessions
during this past year, we become aware of how we have
shared those gifts. As we reflect, we may ask ourselves:
Have I shared my gift of time wisely among my family,
friends, work, prayer and weekly Eucharist? Am I willing
to take-a-step, reprioritize and plan to share a little more
time in those areas which I consider important?
Do I acknowledge and give thanks that all around me is
gift from our most generous God? Am I able to take-astep
and acknowledge that I, too, am a gift from God?
Have I begun the journey of discerning what special gifts
and talents God has given me? Am I willing to take-astep
in this most vital process toward our parish
“Welcome Sunday” when I’ll be asked to share my gifts?
Before we can begin using and sharing our God-given gifts
and talents, we must first discover what we have been given!
Then, when we live a stewardship way of life, out of gratitude
to God for all that we have been given, our work becomes
holy. By accepting Jesus’ mission as our own at Baptism and depending on the Eucharist to nourish and sustain us for this
challenge – we become ever more aware that at home, at
work, at the parish, in the community and in the world… We
are the Hands of Christ!
Sunday, May 20th is “Welcome Sunday” in our parish. On
May 20th, we'll be welcoming all new Parishioners and inviting
everyone -- both new parishioners and old -- to join any of
our incredible ministries at the Parish and Old Mission. Please
join us in the Serra Gardens after any Mass on Sunday, May
20th to talk with Ministry representatives to learn more. We
look forward to seeing all of you and talking more with you
on May 20th. See you all there!
Two great challenges today face a growing Catholic Church
in this country: the declining number of clergy and the diminishing level of contributions. Fortunately, two flourishing
contemporary developments have emerged to meet those
challenges:
More and more lay people are donating a significant portion of their time and talents for building a better Church and world.
More and more lay people are likewise starting to
realize we have all been given an immense gift, our
Catholic faith.
What an amazing privilege to be Catholic and live the
Catholic faith with clarity, passion, responsibility, zeal, and
joy. Having been given this treasure, we must be passionate
and responsible stewards of the Church.
As passionate and responsible stewards of the Church, we
live out our commitment through the witness of our way of
life. However, being good, avoiding evil, is not enough. We
are called to be living members of the Church. It is precisely
through the passionate and responsible use of our time, talent
and treasure that we contribute to the growth and development
of our parish family. Each of us has been empowered
to be an active member of our parish family and we
have the responsibility to live out our commitment within
our parish.
Let us be filled with gratitude for the great gift of the
Church. Hopefully, the Holy Spirit will bestow upon us a profound
sense of commitment so that we will be passionate
and responsible stewards of our parish family.
We invite you to serve! Please consider giving of your time
and talent to our parish family. Join us on “Welcome Sunday”,
May 20, 2012.
“Welcome Sunday” will be targeted to welcome all new
registered parishioners and an open invitation to all parishioners
to get involve in one way or another with our parish
life. We have many ministries to choose from and every one
of them welcomes you and is waiting for you to become an
active part of our parish family!
“Your light must shine before all so that they may see goodness in your acts” (Matt 5:16).
Jesus invites us to commit ourselves to be good stewards of the gifts entrusted to us, to share our time, our talents and our treasure as an outward sign of the love and gratitude we
have for him.
Giving of our time and talent mainly involves a change of attitude about giving. It’s important to think in terms of giving in gratitude to God, of considering how blessed we are, of using our gifts and talents for the good of others. In the area of time and talent, many parishioners already commit a certain number of hours each week to prayer, and to sharing their time and talents for the benefit of all.
How much time have you spent this week in prayer for others and for the work of the Church? Have you ever thought about how many hours you spend doing things for yourself versus how many you spend doing things for others?

“Everyone must give according to what he has inwardly decided; not sadly, not grudgingly, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor 9:7).
“Welcome Sunday” is May 20. Please join us to welcome and recognize all our new parishioners.
Consider joining on “Welcome Sunday” one of the many ministries we have to offer and become an active member of our parish family life. Invite someone new to serve with you! Stay tuned for more information….

Young people today are looking for individuals who are authentic and confident Catholics, as models of the faith. It is
not how much you know about the faith but how you live it.
With this in mind please consider the following.
We are in need of catechists/teachers for our high school
youth faith formation program. We are looking for men &
women who would be willing to share and teach the faith,
engage in discussion and faith experiences with our young
people. Classes are on Tuesday evenings with some Saturday
mornings. Training, resources, etc., are provided.
Last year our Confirmation Program and other high school classes had over 150 students. Many of last year’s teachers have moved or are unable to commit for this year. At present we need eight teachers and also classroom aides.
Please consider investing sometime with the “younger
church” they are the future of our faith.
For more info., please call Bill Bischoff at 760‐547‐0702.

CENTERING PRAYER: is a renewal of the rich tradition of contemplative prayer in the Christian Church. It is designed to reduce obstacles to an intimate personal relationship with God. Our centering prayer group meets every Wednesday evening from 7:00-8:30 p.m. for prayer and instruction in Rm. #12 in the McKeon Ctr. For additional information, log onto: www.consd.com.
New Voices Coming to 10 AM Mass: Our choirs are undergoing many exciting changes! This a great time to come join our ministry and bring great ideas and talent for the praise of our Lord. As you will notice very soon, our 10 AM choir, formally known as the Shepherds Choir, will be combining with the Trinity (Filipino choir), and we want you to join too!
We are encouraging men especially to come join and give us that good support from the low notes. I also find that any instrument that you play can be included within our ministry. We want to make a joyful noise so bring them in! The practice for this choir will be on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the music room, beginning right after Easter.
SCHOLA: You will also notice during Holy Week a small vocal ensemble singing some of the old Sacred Music. This group, another idea we’ve had, is taking the form of a Schola. This group will be an “audition only” group that sings advanced choral pieces, from Palestrina, Mozart, Faure, Bach, and
modern classical music from Kevin Allen etc.
Gospel Choir: If you are young and into more contemporary and African American styled gospel, we have great news for you! The Confirmation youth will be singing at their Confirmation and from that group, we want to establish an all youth contemporary Gospel Choir! If you play guitar, bass, piano, or any instrument and are more inclined to contemporary or Gospel music, then consider joining!
For information and details on these or any other existing groups, please contact Lupe rios, director of Worship, at (760) 547-0709 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

They can be brought to the parish office on Wednesday March 17 & Thursday March 18th between the hours of 8am and 4pm. No cookies can be accepted after the 18th. The cookies must then be sent to the prison for inspection.
