MSLRP Uses a Strengths-Based Approach
to Stewardship of Time and Talent

As we each discern God’s call to us—whether over the course of our lifetime or throughout the hours of each day—it’s critical to be cognizant of just how we have been gifted. And that’s where the Strengths approach to stewardship comes into play. More than 40 years ago, researcher Dr. Donald Clifton and the Gallup Organization recognized that there were patterns in the talents that God gave people from birth. Clifton researched those natural patterns, categorized talents into 34 distinct “themes,” and developed a method for measuring those talent themes.The result is the Clifton StrengthsFinder, a research-based online questionnaire that takes only 30 minutes to complete. At the end of that half hour, an individual is given his or her top five themes of talent—their Signature Themes.

The Strengths-approach to stewardship shows parishioners how to identify and develop their Signature Themes and to use them for growth and service. When people discover and develop their talents—rather than struggling to fix their weaknesses—they grow in gratitude for how God has made them uniquely for Himself. They find a new sense of purpose in their lives. Their relationships are strengthened; their everyday lives are transformed.
