About Mission San Luis Rey Parish

serra_new
Franciscan friars first came to the West Coast of California in 1769, with the arrival of Franciscan Friar Blessed Junipero Serra. Franciscans from Mexico and Spain continued Serra's work, establishing a total of twenty-one missions from San Diego to the San Francisco Bay region.  Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, the Mother Church of our parish, was founded in 1798 by Padre Lasuen.

From its beginnings, Mission San Luis Rey Parish has been blessed with a diverse and multicultural population in the San Luis Rey Valley of Oceanside, California.  For over 200 years, our mission has been to welcome all who come  and invite them to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Staffed by priests and brothers of the Order of Franciscan Friars Minor (OFM) of Santa Barbara Province, our hope is that you will find our parish a place of welcome, peace  and friendship.

Click here for more information about our Mother Church, Mission San Luis Rey.  Known affectionately as the "Old Mission", this "King of the Missions" offers retreats and multicultural events that reach out into the community of Oceanside and beyond.
