Faith Formation“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to carry out everything I have commanded you. And know that I am with you always, until the end of the world” (Matthew 28:19-20).
The early Church clearly understood that this missionary mandate of Jesus Christ gave the Church its reason for being. The Holy Spirit propelled those who knew Jesus to go out, to teach, to preach, to baptize, to make disciples; in short, to spread the Good News of Salvation to the ends of the known world.
The Church, today, continues to respond to this missionary call given in Matthew 28. Propelled by the Spirit to share the Good News of Salvation, in addition to our daily and weekend liturgies, we offer a full religious education program for children, youth, and adults. Scripture study and faith sharing as well as opportunities for retreats and community service.
Catechesis, the process of informing disciples of Christ, enables the disciple to know, celebrate, live out and express his or her faith. seeks to faithfully instill in the believer a knowledge of the content of God’s self-revelation which is found in Sacred Scripture, in Tradition and in the Creed. The believer comes to know Christ in the liturgy and the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Catechesis encourages faithful witness to the moral teachings of Jesus Christ and invites believers to express those teachings in everyday life and the public, social arena.
