Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
The Franciscan archives credit St. Francis of Assisi for starting the practice of Eucharistic Adoration in Italy. Eucharistic Adoration is the worship of Jesus Christ present in the Holy Eucharist. On the altar, the Eucharist is placed in a special holder called a "monstrance." At the center of the monstrance, Jesus can be seen and adored. At times, worshippers will sit praying silently. Some pray the rosary or read scriptures. Sometimes, group prayers or hymns might be sung. When someone passes in front of the monstrance, they will genuflect or kneel. You may notice how quiet the chapel is during adoration. Worshippers try hard to avoid any distracting or disturbing actions. The focus of all attention is on Jesus.
Christians have practiced Eucharistic Adoration from the time of the Apostles. St. Francis spent time in Eucharistic Adoration. Parishioners often note that this time spent with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament can be one of the most peaceful and satisfying hours they spend all month.
Our community of faith gathers to pray and worship Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration the First Friday of each month in the Parish Chapel from 8am to 10am. All are welcome! Come join us!
