We would like all Religious Education children to wear
the "My Mission" shirts to church on Religious Ed Sundays. Our goal is that all RE children get a shirt. They are available for purchase today, November 13th,  after 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and the 12:00 Mass.  

All shirts are $15 each. Sizes are children’s S M L and XL.

Confirmation Program

Our first Confirmation Workshop got off to a great start on
Saturday last. The Youth Ministry Team was on hand to look
after our young people and to make it fun and informative.
The theme was, “Worship and Praise” and Lupe Rios,
our Director of Worship at the parish, led us in doing just
that. We planned our confirmation program for the year
ahead and heard some excellent testimony from older youth
on the importance of faith and witness.

Candidates for Confirmation in this parish will:

1. Attend Classes on Tuesday nights to learn about
their faith.

2. Attend Workshops about once a month on Saturday
mornings to look at special themes such as: Prayer,
Churchs’ Teaching on Sexuality, Life Skills, Justice,
Peace and the Integrity of Creation, and more.

3. Take part in a ministry of their choice at the parish,
other than Eucharistic Minister and Lector, in order
to learn about service in a Catholic Parish.

4. Attend a retreat before Confirmation in 2012.

What is Youth Day?

Youth Day is held annually on the Thursday of the Religious Education Congress weekend. All High school students are invited, and many different backgrounds from throughout the Archdiocese -- and beyond -- come together to participate in morning and afternoon workshops, culminating in a Youth Rally.

Who May Attend?

Youth Day is designed for all students from public and Catholic schools, grades 9 through 12. NOTE: Students below the 9th grade are not allowed to participate in this event and will be refused admission.

What Does Youth Day Cost?

Adult chaperones are required for each group of 10 students (maximum), all attending the same workshop. We recommend one extra chaperone for all your groups and suggest you add the additional name to your first group registered. The registration fee for Youth Day 2011 is $20 ($25 after February 4, 2011).

Youth Day 2011 Theme The theme for the day is "GODBOOK: Everyone Invited!" The emphasis is really that everyone is invited to be part of God’s social network. We want to focus on the “Everyone Invited” part, as well as the Godbook part.

Youth Ministry at our parish has a new team of leaders!  Six were elected from the Youth Core Team and six adults were invited from the parish family to act as mentors.  At our first meeting before Christmas, Maui Pasefika was elected to chair this new Leadership Team and Adriana Rodriguez was chosen as secretary.  Congratulations to both of these young women!  Please keep them in your prayers.

Serving on the Youth Ministry Team are: Maui Pasefika, Adriana Rodriguez, Elizabeth Olozagaste, Valerie Torres, Tala Paulo, Margie Arguello, Byron Leonard, Diana Estrada, Katie Moorman, John Arguello, Susan McGuirk, and Betty Domingo.  Pat Sheehan will act as facilitator to the Team and Fr. Adrian will be the liaison with the Pastoral Staff.

This is a new departure for Youth Ministry at our parish and the team approach is one that is being adopted more and more around the diocese of San Diego.  Young people will be empowered to run their own youth ministry program at San Luis Rey with mentoring and support from adults.  The key word is empowerment and the team’s job will be to keep the program on track and provide leadership for those who wish to join our Youth Core Team and our youth program at the parish.

Engaging our young people and building their faith is a priority in our parish.  Excellent work is already done in the various programs – Youth RCIA and Religious Education, with Altar Servers, at the Parish School, and in the Youth Ministry Core Team which meets on Thursday evenings.  We hope to build on all the good work of the past and to move forward with an exciting program of events for our youth in 2011. We count on your encouragement and support and we thank you for your prayers and good wishes as we launch this new venture with our young people.
